Here we have a 2022 Girard Perregaux Laureato Black 81010-11-634-11A, a modern interpretation of their 1975 sporty dress watch designed by Gerald Genta, who has incorporated elements found in his AP Royal Oak creation. The 42mm stainless steel case has flowing brushed and polished lines that transition perfectly, drawing the eye towards the integrated bracelet; a lug-to-lug length of 48.5mm and a case thickness of 10.5mm give the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side, we have a signed crown with deep knurling for extra grip. An octagonal brushed and polished smooth bezel holds a flat sapphire crystal above a striking black dial with a dynamic Clous de Paris (waffle) pattern, and an outer minute chapter ring surrounds applied bullet-shaped indexes infilled with Super LumiNova marking the hours at 3 o’clock, a colour-matched date window. Elegant sword hands are filled with Super-LumiNova, complemented by a tapered sweeping second hand. At 12 o’clock, we have the applied Girard Perregaux motif, and at 6 o’clock, “Laureato Automatic” completes this stunning vintage-inspired and versatile sports dress watch. On the reverse, a screwed-down exhibition case back, inside an automatic Girard Perregaux Cal. GP01800, 28 jewels, beating at 21,600 beats per hour; this movement was released in 2017 at the SIHH Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie Trade show in Geneva, Switzerland.
