2018 DOXA SUB 300 Searambler Aqualung Limited 43mm

Here we have a very rare 2018 DOXA SUB 300 Searambler Aqualung, Limited to 300 pieces, celebrating its 50th Anniversary and made in collaboration with Aqua-Lung, formerly known as U.S. Divers Company, a division of the French diving brand Air Liquide, founded in part by Jacques Cousteau. Cousteau and Emile Gagnan invented the Aqua-Lung in 1943 and famously brought the beauty of the depths to mass audiences at the Cinema in 1956 with their film The Silent World (La Monde Du Silence), which won a Hollywood Oscar. Air Liquide acquired U.S. Divers in 1956, which saw the beginning of the company's expansion into new markets with new offices in multiple countries, including Japan, Germany, the United Kingdom and Australia. The 43mm C-shaped stainless steel case sits on the wrist like a cushion, this case was designed and developed by Urs Eschle who was the product manager for the original DOXA SUB, polished sides and brushed top surfaces transition with crisp edges towards the flat-ended lugs, and a lug-to-lug length of 44.5mm and a case thickness of 13mm gives the watch an impressive wrist presence. At 3 o’clock, there is a screw-down crown that fits recessed into the side of the case for protection. The unidirectional bezel features U.S. Navy No Decompression scales, with an outer depth scale in orange and a minute scale in black, allowing divers to gauge how much air remains in their tanks. The boxed sapphire crystal sits above the silver dial. Large double baton indexes with lume down their centres mark the hours. At 3 o’clock, a framed date window. A small black hour hand with a larger orange minute hand is complemented by a black second hand with an orange square counterweight. This colour combination is highly visible when diving. A crosshair on the dial has “DOXA” and “automatic” printed on the upper left. On the lower left side, we have the “AquaLung” logo printed and finally on the lower right side, “SUB 300” “Searambler". On the reverse, a screw-down case back with the DOXA motif in bas-relief in the centre, inside automatic ETA 2824-2, 25 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour. It comes paired with its original full-link brushed and polished 20mm Doxa signed ‘Beads of Rice’ stainless steel bracelet secured by a folding clasp, flip lock and dive extension; all links are included, plus a fitted 20mm black rubber strap and signed push-button clasp, and the watch also comes with its Doxa presentation Tube and papers.
