Here we have a 2024 Hanhart 417 ES 1954 Flyback Chronograph featuring a 39mm polished and brushed stainless steel case, the ES (“Edelstahl”) is German for stainless steel, and the broad brushed flanks curve over your wrist with finely tapered flat-ended lugs, a modern interpretation of their first pilot's chronograph used by the German armed forces, produced from 1954 until 1963 it was known as the 417. A lug-to-lug length of 46mm and a case thickness of 13.5mm give the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right, we have the piston chronograph pushers and a signed crown in the centre. The coin-edged bezel, with a splash of red at 12 o’clock, is painted in scratch-resistant HyCeram and holds a box-shaped AR-coated sapphire crystal above a matte black bicompax dial. An outer minute track is precisely printed with the Arabic numeral indices coated in Super LumiNova, marking the hours. At 3 o’clock we have a 30-minute register and at 9 o’clock the small seconds register, each white register sitting slightly recessed and fully lumed, elegant syringe-style hands infilled with Super LumiNova and complemented by a tapered chronograph hand, at 12 o’clock the Hanhart motif “23 Jewels” and at 6 o’clock “Antimagnetic Shockproof” completes this traditional vintage-inspired Pilots bicompax chronograph. On the reverse, a screw-down case back with the details of the watch engraved around its edge and an embossed Hanhart motif in the centre, inside a manually wound Sellita Cal. AMT5100 M, 23 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour; column-wheel flyback movement with hacking seconds.
