2021 Rolex Submariner No-Date 41mm Box & Papers 124060

The Watch

Here we have a 2021 Rolex Submariner No-Date Box & Papers with a curvaceous 41mm Oystersteel Oyster Monobloc middle case that curves over your wrist with tapered lugs. Released in September 2020 this case is the largest Submariner Rolex have ever made, though on the wrist it feels more like a 40mm. Polished flanks and satin-brushed surfaces transition with crisp edges towards a lug-to-length of 48mm and a case thickness of 12mm giving the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side is a Triplock, a three-gasket screw-down signed crown protected by crown guards and deep knurling for extra grip. The unidirectional bezel has a 60-minute dive insert made of black Cerachrom, a Rolex proprietary corrosion-resistant Ceramic, deeply engraved Arabic numerals and markings coated with Platinum PVD. A flat sapphire crystal AR coated on the inside sits above a black dial, an engraved Rolex rehaut surrounds the disc and baton indexes filled with Chromalight marking the hours, elegant Mercedes hands filled with Chromalight are complemented by a lollipop counterweighted sweeping second-hand, at 12 o’clock an applied Rolex cornet, Oyster Perpetual underneath and at 6 o’clock Submariner 1000ft=300m Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified completes this perfectly balanced sports watch. On the reverse, a screw-down coin-edged case back, inside an automatic Rolex Cal. 3230, 31 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour, this precision COSC and Rolex Certified movement has a bidirectional rotor, a patented blue Parachrom hairspring, a Paraflex anti-shock system and a nickel-phosphorus anti-magnetic Chronergy escapement. The watch comes paired with its 21mm OysterSteel satin brushed bracelet with a folding OysterLock and Rolex Glidelock dive extension, so useful when you need to adjust the bracelet on the fly. Personal Note

This is the latest No-Date Submariner reference 124060 in 41mm, when released it was received with scepticism on why the size was increased, but now many have had the chance to try it on and see it in the metal most agree this wears better on the wrist than the previous 40mm Ceramic reference. I would say this is one of the best modern Rolex's you can buy if you are after an everyday, every occasion watch that you can truly do anything in.

The Brand

In 1905, German-born Hans Wilsdorf and his brother-in-law Alfred Davis set up a company in London that imported Swiss movements which were installed in British cases and sold to jewellers who put their names on the dials. Recognising the potential for their brand, Wilsdorf created the brand name Rolex in 1908. In 1910, a Rolex became the first wristwatch to carry the Swiss Certificate of Chronometric Precision, awarded by the Official Watch Rating Centre in Bienne, Switzerland. Demand for Rolex watches rose swiftly, and British taxes on the Swiss movements Rolex used prompted Wilsdorf to move the business to Geneva, Switzerland, in 1919. With production costs lowered, Wilsdorf quickly set out to solve the age-old problem of moisture and dust entering a watch case and damaging the movement. The Rolex watchmakers came up with a fully sealed watch case, which Wilsdorf named the Oyster, and released to an appreciative audience in 1926. In 1931, Rolex introduced the first automatic winding wristwatch, giving it the legendary name Oyster Perpetual. In 1945, they released Datejust. The Datejust was the first watch to have the date jump instantaneously at midnight. The 1950s saw a whole lot of releases such as the Air-King (1958), the Explorer (1953), the Submariner (1953), the GMT Master (1955), the Day-Date (1956), the electromagnetic field resistant Milgauss (1956), the Lady-Datejust (1957) and the first Deep Sea model (1960). Wilsdorf’s death in 1960, saw ownership of Rolex S.A. (a collection of sub-companies) passed to the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation which was founded by Wilsdorf in 1945, the mission of which is simply to sustain Rolex S.A. indefinitely.
