2020 Unimatic U1-MLM Massena Lab Blue Limited
Here we have a 2020 Unimatic U1-MLM Massena Lab made in collaboration with the William Massena New York City studio; this contemporary design answers the question of What a 1950s Unimatic would look like today. It is an amalgamation of vintage details and modern materials and is limited to 099/200 pieces. This is their second collaboration together. The 41.5mm stainless steel case curves in all the right places. A lug-to-lug length of 49mm and a thickness of 13.5mm ensure a comfortable fit on your wrist. On the right side is a signed screw-down crown protected by crown guards. Its 120-click uni-directional 60-minute blue dive bezel has a lume pip at 12. A 2.5mm thick double-domed sapphire crystal AR coated on the inside protects a unique dial. Each dial goes through a galvanised process that results in various shades of deep blue; the applied disc and baton indexes have hand-applied Super-LumiNova Old radium, giving them their vintage aesthetic. Broad phantom ladder hands coated in the same luminance are complemented by a reversed lollipop tapered sweeping second hand. On the reverse, you find a very detailed engraving of an Anchor, which is a nod to the French Naval tradition. Inside an Automatic Seiko NH35A, 24 jewels, 21,600 beats per hour. The watch comes on a 22mm blue heavy-duty Unimatic nylon nato strap, with a buckle signed Unimatic and also comes with its UNIMATIC x Massena LAB tough case and papers.
