2019 Seiko Zimbe Mini Turtle Thailand Limited Edition SRPD19

The Watch

Here we have a 2019 Seiko Zimbe Mini Turtle Thailand SRPD19 Limited Edition of 999 pieces exclusive to the Thailand market, the word Zimbe "Jinbe Zame" in Japanese means whale shark. A 42mm stainless steel “C” shaped cushion case has a short lug-to-lug of 42.5mm and a thickness of 12.5mm ensuring a comfortable fit, Seiko gets wrist ergonomics so right. At 3 o’clock a large screw-down crown, the case has brushed tops and polished sides that transition with crisp flowing lines. The stainless steel bezel has a black and yellow dive insert, with black numerals marking the first 15 minutes, and the outer edge has deep knurling making it much easier to grip. A flat Hardlex crystal has a cyclops magnification above the date window at 3 o’clock. The bright yellow dial is textured with a delicate repeating flower that adds a real quality boost over a standard Turtle, applied rounded batons and trapezoid indexes are coated in LumiBrite marking the hours. A broad sword hand and a bright red arrow minute hand are coated in LumiBrite with a lollipop counterbalance centre seconds hand. The text is precisely printed in black with “Seiko” at 12 o’clock, at 6 o’clock the Prospex logo, “Automatic Divers 200m”. On the reverse, a screw-down case back with an embossed Seiko Tsunami in the centre, inside an automatic Seiko Cal. 4R35, 23 jewels, 21,600 beats per hour, a powerhouse of movement was first introduced in 2011. The watch comes fitted on a Seiko 20mm rubber strap with a signed buckle and also comes with its Seiko presentation box and papers.

Points of Mention

This watch is sold with its original Seiko box and Seiko paperwork. The watch comes paired with its original 20mm Seiko rubber strap with a signed buckle. Personal Note

We don't often see these Zimbe Thailand limited editions make their way across the ocean, which is a real shame as they are often some of the very best limited editions to come from Seiko, this SRPD19 is the perfect example of that! The yellow is vibrant and the texture compliments it perfectly, plus the case proportions of the "Mini Turtle" are just perfect on the wrist. With summer basically here in the UK, this is the perfect watch to throw on and enjoy against the sun!

The Brand

Seiko's history began in 1881 when Kintaro Hattori established the K. Hattori retail and repair store. In 1892 Seikosha was established by making wall clocks. 1895 saw the production of their first pocket watch. 1913 saw the launch of their first wristwatch, the Laurel. In 1924 the first Seiko was manufactured. Daini Seikosha (now Seiko Instruments Inc.) was established in 1937. Seiko was listed on the Tokyo stock exchange in 1949. The Suwa factory became independent and formed Suwa Seikosha Co., Ltd. (now Seiko Epson Corporation in 1959). In 1956 Seiko launched Marvel as their first true in-house-made watch; they continued to make this watch until 1959. Japan’s first chronograph watch was introduced for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics; it was called the Seiko Crown Chronograph monopusher. Not stopping there Seiko launched Japan's first true divers watch, the Seiko Diver’s 150M fitted with the automatic Caliber 6217 which later was given the nickname “62MAS” by collectors. The company name was changed to the Seiko Corporation in 1990. Innovation at Seiko continues today with GPS Solar watches.
