The Watch
Here, we have a 2018/19 Jaeger Lecoultre Geophysic Universal Time 503.8.T2.S with a polished and brushed 42mm stainless steel case that gently curves over your wrist with tapered lugs. JLC first introduced the Geophysic line in 1958 as a scientific watch. A lug-to-lug length of 48mm and a case thickness of 11.5mm ensures a comfortable fit. On the right side is a signed crown. A smooth polished bezel holds a sapphire crystal, the dynamic dial has a fixed silver outer ring that has 24 major cities making up 24 time zones; the ones in blue indicate nighttime and red for daytime, and the smaller rotating ring indicates 24 hours in blue and white for night and day, adjusted by the crown. A blue lacquered dial has a raised map that represents the northern hemisphere and a red dotted line indicating the Meridian Line in Greenwich, Longitude Zero (0° 0' 0") signifying Greenwich Mean Time GMT, a minute track has applied baton indexes marking the hours and elegant baton hands filled with lume are complemented by a True-Second or Dead Beat seconds hand, giving it that characteristic tick second to second. At 12 o’clock, we have the applied Jaeger Lecoultre motif, completing this incredible traveller companion. On the reverse, a screw-down exhibition case back with the details of the watch engraved around its edge, inside an automatic JLC Cal. 722, 36 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour, fitted with a Dead Beat mechanism with its own hairspring for the seconds, decorated with blued screws, Geneva striping and a gold skeletonised rotor. The watch comes paired with its 21mm JLC leather strap secured by a signed butterfly clasp.

The watch is from Circa 2018/19 and is sold in worn condition, with a few signs of wear, but overall, it is in fair condition, as you can see from the photographs. Jaeger Lecoultre is well known for releasing watches quietly and discontinuing them after only a few years, this incredible Geophysic Universal Time in 42mm is exactly one of those watches! Featuring the beautifully decorated automatic JLC Cal. 722 the watch has a "dead-beat" seconds mechanism, the dial is wonderfully finished offering multiple timezones and all this is offered at a price making this insane value for money in the modern watch market! I would not sleep on this one, add it to your collection whilst you can!

The Brand
Antoine LeCoultre founded LeCoultre in 1833 in the small village of Le Sentier, Switzerland. By 1866, LeCoultre’s workshop had grown from home-run manufacturers spread across Switzerland to installing modern steam-driven machines to power the tools of all of the watchmakers, moving them from their homes and bringing them together in one central unit. Now named LeCoultre & Cie, the company became the very first manufacturer in the Vallée de Joux Switzerland. Antoine and his son Elie LeCoultre employed more than 500 watchmakers in-house. In 1903, Edmond Jaeger, a watchmaker in Paris who made watches for the French Navy, challenged Swiss manufacturers to produce an ultrathin movement. Jacques-David LeCoultre, Elie’s son, rose to the challenge and created the world’s thinnest pocket watch, equipped with the LeCoultre 146 calibre, measuring just 1.38 mm thick. Over the following years, Jaeger and LeCoultre kept in touch, building a solid friendship, and in 1937, Jaeger-LeCoultre was founded. In 2013, they celebrated their 180th Anniversary. Creating iconic timepieces like the Reverso wristwatch and the brilliantly engineered Atmos clock. During the war years, the Mark VII pilot watches of the 1940s were so accurate the Royal Air Force used them as aerial navigation instruments; later, they created the first automatic watch to house a power-reserve indicator in 1948 that was used by the US Army Air Corps. Jaeger-LeCoultre has developed and revolutionised the watch industry like no other manufacturer. Since 2000, it has been a fully owned subsidiary of the Swiss luxury group Richemont. This group includes Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, IWC Schaffhausen, Panerai, Piaget, Vacheron Constantin, Montblanc, Dunhill and Chloé.
