Here we have a rare classic, hardly ever seen, 1978/79 Heuer Verona Automatic Cal. 12 Chronograph. This sports collection, launched in 1978, was named after the small North Italian city of Verona, which Shakespeare famously used as the setting for Romeo and Juliet. Featuring a 38mm round brushed stainless steel case that comfortably sits on your wrist with tapered lugs. Its curved flanks lead to a lug-to-lug length of 46.5mm and a case thickness of 13.5mm, giving it an impressive wrist presence. Down the right side, we have the short, deep-knurled pushers, and on the left side, a signed coin-edged crown in the centre. The stepped smooth bezel holds a domed crystal above a striking black bicompax dial. An inner Tachymeter scale chapter ring surrounds a minute track precisely executed above applied baton indexes and lume pips marking the hours. At 3 o’clock, a 30-minute register; at 9 o’clock, a 12-hour register. A framed date window at 6 o’clock perfectly balances the dial. Slender baton hands filled with lume are complemented by a tapered black chronograph hand. At noon, we have the Verona Heuer motif, and at 6 o’clock, ‘Automatic Chronograph’ completes this rare vintage sports bicompax. On the reverse, a screw-down solid case back, inside an automatic Heuer Cal. 12, 17 jewels, beating at 21,600 beats per hour, a module cam-style chronograph with a micro rotor, introduced in 1969 it was one of the first automatic chronographs and is based on the Buren 1282, part of ‘Project 99,’ a collaboration with Hamilton, Breitling, and Dubois-Depraz. It comes paired with three well-suited 20mm straps and pin buckles.
