1970s Mondaine Oval Skin Diver Automatic Bakelite Bezel 38mm
Here we have a 1970s Mondaine Diver with an unusual 38mm oval stainless steel case that subtly curves and sits comfortably on your wrist thanks to the shouldered lugs, and the lug-to-lug length is 46mm, and the case thickness is 12.8mm. On the right side a coin-edged domed crown. The bidirectional stainless steel bezel has knurling for grip, and its original bakelite 60-minute dive insert holds a domed acrylic crystal above a matte black dial. An outer minute track surrounds Tritium plots and polished indexes infilled with Tritium marking the hours; at 6 o’clock, a “Roulette” red Arabic numerals on a white date window is seen through a cyclops magnification on the underside of the crystal. Steel arrow and baton hands filled with Tritium are complemented by a sweeping second hand counterweighted by a tritium-filled rectangle; at 12 o’clock, we have the Mondaine motif. On the reverse, a screw-down case back engraved with the details of the watch, inside an automatic ETA 2783, 25 jewels, beating at a respectable 21,600 beats per hour; this quality movement has a quick-set date. It comes paired with a well-suited 19mm leather strap and pin buckle.
